What is 3D Printing?

3D Printing is a way to create three-dimensional objects by adding material layer by layer. First, a digital design is made on a computer. Next, the 3D printer reads this design and starts building the object using materials like plastic or metal. Over time, the object takes shape as each layer is added. Finally, the finished product can be used for things like toys, tools, or even parts for machines. Overall, it’s a cool way to turn ideas into real things!

It is Commonly refered to as additive manufacturing. ” 3D Printing is the process of creating an object by building it one layer at a time”.

With this technology, we can design , prototype and print within days.

PLA & PLA + 3D Printing filament

PLA which stands for polylactic acid. It is a sustainable 3D printing filament. It is made from organic sources.

One of the most commonly used materials in 3D printing. PLA is not as strong and heat resistant as ABS but it is effective for prototyping and getting a design for mockups.

PLA + used for marketing purposes but it is an improved PLA filament. Compared to PLA it prints at higher temperatures 205 -225 ℃. It does show some improved results in improved heat resistance and better results in stifness.

PETG

PETG known as Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified  is a material that is widely used in industrial applications. it is used in several industries ranging from medical , tech and food industries.

It does not deterioate with water , isnt toxic and is FDA-approved. As one of the most popular 3D Printing filaments it has good material properties. It prints high usually with a nozzel temperature of 220  ℃ -260  ℃ and a heated bed temperature of 60 ℃-80 ℃. It is more heat resistant than PLA and it is stronger too.  There are a couple draw backs , PETG is highly Hygroscropic which means if its kept in humid places it will become brittle.

ABS

ABS, which stands for acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, is a thermoplastic filament.  As opposed to PLA filament, ABS is a bit more technical and is more difficult.

The properties of ABS make it great for strong parts , that need to be heat resistant with common applications for end-use tools, moving parts that need to withstand high mechanical stress.
